At the very end of February 2020 another country was added to the parkrun country list: The Netherlands.

Some people think goals based on running a certain time are both arbitrary and unhelpful, but when you achieve them it feels different!

With major marathons hosting exhibitions that are free to attend, even for non-participants, you may wonder if there was really a need for a national running show in 2018.

Frankfurt was my fourth marathon and one where I wanted to push that bit harder and eat away at my PB.

Arguably the largest half marathon in the world (Göteborg occasionally beats it) this very quickly joined my bucket list of races to run.

Having achieved three consecutive parkrun PBs, I knew a half-marathon PB could be on the cards.

About Matt

Not known for sport at school, I took up running in my mid-forties. Very soon I caught the running bug and progressed from the Couch to 5K programme, via parkrun, various 10k races and the Great North Run to running marathons and beyond in the UK and overseas. Now in my fifties, I still run fast enough to impress my friends and family, but not fast enough to think I've missed a vocation as an Olympian!
